Once you have been inspired by the view to Innsbruck, you only need to turn around and take a few steps to see the largest nature park in Austria. The Karwendel is not only an impressive nature paradise, but also the habitat for alpine wildlife. You may be lucky enough to spot gold eagles, alpine ibex, marmots, chamois or bearded vultures. Hafelekar is the window to the Karwendel Nature Park and makes it possible to experience this unique habitat. Up here at 2,300m, high above the rooftops of Innsbruck, being so close to nature, it is quite easy to forget about the city at the foot of the mountain.

The Nordkette offers various sporting possibilities. From skiing, snowboarding and freeriding during te winter to different mountainbike trails, the Nordkette Climbing Arena and the Fixed Rope Route during summer.

Naturepark Karwendel

With an area covering 727 square kilometres, the Karwendel Nature Park encompasses almost the whole Karwendel mountain range. It is the largest protected region in the Tyrol and Austria’s largest Nature Park.

Hiking

The Nordkette is the perfect starting point for a variety of hikes and walks. For example, the short ascent from the Hafelekar station to the Hafelekar peak, the panorama circular trail at the Seegrube or longer expeditions such as hiking into the Karwendel Nature Park via The Goethe Trail. There is something for all hikers and walkers at the Nordkette.
